Before you reach the border

US and Canada insurance

Mexican auto insurance usually doesn't cover you across the border. Get a policy for your trip before you cross.

Why you need it

  1. It's required. The United States and Canada require liability insurance to drive. Check the requirements of the states you'll drive through.
  2. Your Mexican policy may not apply. Ask your insurer; many policies only cover you inside Mexico.
  3. Buy it by the day. You only pay for the dates of your trip.

We work with National Unity

We sell tourist policies from National Unity Insurance Company, an insurer based in San Antonio, Texas that specializes in coverage for Mexican-plated vehicles driving in the United States and Canada. They are for personal travel; we don't offer commercial insurance for trucks or freight.

  • Get a quote and pay online, or in person at Ahijados Autopista.
  • Towing a trailer? It can be insured too, as long as the vehicle pulling it has its own policy.
  • You need a valid driver's license; an expired license can't be used to buy a policy.
  • Carry your policy with you for the whole trip, printed or on your phone.
  • If you have an accident or a question about your policy, contact National Unity directly using the details on your policy.

Online

Get a quote and buy from your phone in a few minutes. Have your vehicle details and a valid driver's license handy.
